Loxapine can elevate serum prolactin.[ 1 ] The hyperprolactinemia is caused by the drug's dopamine-blocking action in the tuberoinfundibular pathway.[ 2 ] The prolactin level in a mother with established lactation may not affect her ability to breastfeed.
