Second trimester: weeks 14 to 27

What changes, what gets checked, and what to watch for — week by week.

The second trimester runs from week 14 to week 27. Each week below has its own page with your baby's size, how you may feel, what is offered clinically, and the signs worth a call.

Pregnancies differ, and so do the dates a clinic works to. Treat the week numbers as the common pattern rather than a schedule you are behind on.

Common questions

Which weeks are the second trimester?

Weeks 14 to 27. Clinics count from the first day of your last period, so the dates on your notes may differ slightly from how far along you feel.

What tests happen in the second trimester?

Quad / triple serum screen (if first-trimester screen not done); Anomaly (mid-pregnancy) ultrasound (weeks 18–22); Glucose screen for gestational diabetes (weeks 24–28). What is offered varies by country and by your own history.

How might I feel in the second trimester?

Energy levels often continue improving; some notice increased skin blood flow ('pregnancy glow'), though this is not universal. Nasal congestion (pregnancy rhinitis) can occur due to hormonal changes. Appetite often continues increasing; hair and nails may seem to grow faster due to hormonal changes. Occasional round-ligament pain — a brief, sharp ache in the lower belly or groin as the uterus stretches — is common and typically not concerning.

This page gathers and links what the individual week and nutrient pages already publish — it introduces no figure they do not carry, and each one names its own source.
