How this site works

The Story Behind Belly to Bump

It started with one baby, and a lot of questions.

When I became a mother, I thought the hardest part would be the pregnancy.

I was wrong.

Pregnancy came with its own surprises—changes I hadn't expected, questions I didn't know I needed to ask, and moments when I found myself searching the internet for something as simple as, “Is this normal?”

And then came the baby.

Suddenly, there were even more questions.

What does this cry mean?
Is the baby sleeping enough?
Is this feeding pattern normal?
Should I be worried about this?
Am I doing this right?

The internet had an answer for almost everything.

But somehow, that didn't always make things easier.

Sometimes there was too much information. Sometimes there were ten different opinions. And sometimes, after reading one perfectly normal thing, I somehow ended up worrying about five things I had never even thought about before.

What I really wished for was someone who could simply say:

“Take a breath. Here's what you need to know.”

The early days stay with you.

There are moments from those first weeks at home that I still remember clearly.

The exhaustion. The interrupted sleep. The tiny routines that suddenly became the centre of your entire world.

And that strange feeling of being completely in love with this little person while also wondering if you were actually prepared for any of it.

People talk a lot about the baby after birth.

But they don't always talk enough about the mother.

About how much changes inside you too.

Your body changes. Your sleep changes. Your priorities change. Your confidence can change from one day to the next.

Some days you feel like you've got it.

Some days you are searching for answers at 2 a.m., wondering whether every other mother somehow knows something you don't.

I know that feeling.

That's why Belly to Bump exists.

Belly to Bump was born from a very simple idea:

Motherhood shouldn't feel more confusing just because there is too much information everywhere.

I wanted to create a place where mothers could find useful, understandable and reassuring information—from pregnancy through the early years of motherhood.

Not information designed to frighten you.

Not endless lists of things that could go wrong.

Not advice that assumes every mother, every pregnancy and every baby is the same.

Just thoughtful, practical information that helps you understand what is happening, what you can expect, what deserves attention—and when it is simply okay to breathe and take things one day at a time.

And where something really needs a doctor, we want to help you recognise that too.

Because motherhood is not supposed to be perfect.

There is no perfect pregnancy.

There is no perfect birth.

There is no perfect mother.

And there certainly isn't one perfect way to raise a baby.

There are questions, doubts, beautiful moments, difficult moments, mistakes, laughter, exhaustion and an enormous amount of learning along the way.

Belly to Bump is my attempt to make that journey a little less lonely and a little less overwhelming.

If you're reading this at 2 a.m....

Maybe your baby isn't sleeping.

Maybe you're pregnant and wondering whether something you're feeling is normal.

Maybe you've just become a mother and you're wondering why nobody told you how much would change.

Maybe you've spent the last hour searching the internet and somehow feel more worried than when you started.

Whatever brought you here, I want you to know this:

You don't have to know everything today.

You don't have to have motherhood figured out.

You are allowed to ask questions.

You are allowed to feel overwhelmed.

You are allowed to learn as you go.

And sometimes, you simply need someone to make the complicated things a little easier to understand.

That's what I hope Belly to Bump can be.

A trusted companion from your first bump to the little person who eventually runs around calling you “Mumma.”

Because I started Belly to Bump as a mother who had questions.

And I hope it becomes a place where mothers can come for answers—and leave feeling a little more confident about their own.
